With over 40 years of history and great international prestige, this award recognizes an original piece of orchestral repertoire with €100,000 each year. The prize promotes contemporary classical music and facilitates the viability of the work of composers, so that they can dedicate themselves to creation and their work is heard, disseminated, and recognized.
Since 1982, among others, recipients of the Reina Sofía Prize for Musical Composition have included Joan Guinjoan, Salvador Brotons, Ramon Humet, Joan Magrané, Nuria Núñez, Fabià Santkovsky, Josep Planells and Luis Tabuenca.
