Meet the winners of the Finestres d'Assaig Scholarships.

The selected candidates for the 2025 edition of the Finestres Essay Grants, promoted by the Finestres Foundation, have now been announced. In total, six projects have been chosen: three in Catalan and three in Spanish.

The chosen proposals in Catalan are:

  • Sota el sol abatut de setembre: Un viatge a la vida i a l’obra of Joaquim Ruyra, by Xavier Pla.
  • The Ghost Tower. Walks through strange Catalonia, by Gabriel Ventura.
  • Avui fan bous. Una crònica periodística de les festes populars als Països Catalans, by Emma Zafón.

The selected proposals in Spanish are:

  • Limbo. La realidad en suspensión, by Sara Barquinero.
  • A quien recoge huesos le conviene hallar violetas, by Efrén Giraldo.
  • La era del consuelo. No morir, no nacer, no sufrir: promesas del siglo XXI, by Liliana Viola.

Each scholarship is endowed with €25,000 and offers the opportunity to undertake a residency at Residència Literària Finestres in Sanià.

Of the funded works from previous editions, two already have publication commitments from renowned publishers. Cecilia Eseverry Mayer will publish with Anagrama La lucha de los indeseables, a study on the integration of young migrants in various European cities. Verónica Gago will publish Rosa Luxemburgo recolectora: o de cómo cultivar intimidad con el mundo with Random House Argentina and will have distribution in Spain.
